PIKA Connect for Asterisk®
Asterisk is an Open Source PBX that runs on Linux. Although many Asterisk deployments are in a full Voice-over IP environment, there is also a requirement for Asterisk to connect to the PSTN and other traditional PBXs. In order to do this, a gateway is required to the “outside world”.
Pika Connect for Asterisk provides channel drivers to allow Asterisk to communicate with Pika gateway boards for incoming and outgoing calls. Pika currently supports analog PCI boards and digital PCI gateways with additional gateway variants scheduled for release later this year.
Pika also supports a connection to Skype, specifically for Asterisk users. This allows users to accept and make calls from Skype, and route them to an Asterisk station.
Skype Connectivity for Asterisk
A second generation PIKA Connect for Asterisk is now providing connectivity between Asterisk and Skype. It allows Asterisk-based applications to use Skype to make and receive calls, provides access to the calling Skype ID profile information (caller ID), and has touch tone (DTMF) detection capabilities. Skype clients running on Windows based PCs are connected to the channel driver via PIKA’s AllOnHost™ (host-based) voice processing technology. Skype clients can be distributed across an unlimited number of Windows PCs to achieve the density requirements the voice application may require.
